Chapter 29

When she was about to fall over, the duke saw that her body staggered and quickly stretched his arm out to support her.

“Ah!”

Helena was greatly perplexed. As the center of gravity shifted, it was in a state of being held in the duke’s arms. As soon as she realised this, she gently pushed the duke away and quickly escaped from his arms.

She was in a hurry. It wasn’t that she didn’t like being held in the duke’s arms – she felt that the wig that May had fixed a while ago was a little crooked.

‘I’m ruined.’

That was the only thing that filled her mind at that moment. Helena tried relentlessly to make a casual face.

It will be fine. The wig didn’t come off or flipped, it’s just a little crooked. It probably won’t be as big a difference as you think. After all, men are usually not sensitive enough to notice such a small difference.

In fact, there was no change in the duke’s face. If it had been to the point of being irritable, he would have reacted in surprise.

“Are you okay?”

But he still only asked in a polite tone.

“I’m fine. Thank you, Duke.”

Helena quickly expressed her gratitude.

Her cheeks were a little red, but she was certain it wasn’t suspicious. She avoided being held in his arms again by accident, so it was only natural for her face to turn so red.

“Are you okay?”

“Careful. Shall I keep holding your hand?”

“Thank you for your words, but I am really okay.”

Helena wanted her voice to be heard by the duke to be polite and gentle.

She and the duke walked out of the garden to where the tea party was in full swing. While walking, she brushed her hair in a natural motion as much as possible.

Looking sideways at the duke’s reaction, Helena concluded that her appearance was not particularly disturbing and that the duke had not noticed anything. So, Helena walked confidently and proudly.

As they left the rose garden, she saw aristocrats enjoying the tea party together.

“The Countess of Cashford is over there. Excuse me, then.”

The Duke of Bronant excused himself from Helena, pointing to where the countess was. Helena breathed a sigh of relief and quickly raised her skirt and bent her knees to greet the duke in a ceremonial way.

“Yes, Duke. Thanks for taking me.”

However, Helena did not finish her greeting. The duke grinned and whispered quickly in a low voice into her ear.

“Next time, let’s talk about my new clothes.”

Helena was so startled and bewildered, that before she could answer the duke, the duke already moved and took her hand. He kissed the back of Helena’s hand, and whispered, “I think we have a lot to talk about, Miss Helena Stud. Then we’ll see you again soon. I look forward to it.”

The Duke passed the stiff Helena and walked over to the countess.
