Chapter 13: I’m a Member of Team Older-Than-Me

“Onii-chan, who’re you?”

Mhm. And who’re you? I almost asked back.

Well, seeing how she had silver-white hair, it wasn’t hard for me to guess, so instead I was racking my brains as to how to deal with her.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Yuno Astorio, Lady Luna’s knight.” I said, and the mini-Luna tilted her head cutely.

“Onee-sama’s knight? No way, ahaha.” she laughed at me mockingly.

Hmm. How cute. I wonder if Luna was once like this too? I thought to myself.

…Still, she was being pretty late.

She had stepped out to do something before showing me to my room.

“Wait here for a moment.” she had said quite a while ago, leaving the room. She still hadn’t come back yet.

Instead of her, this little silver-haired girl had entered the room.

“Ufufu, ahahaha, aha.”

Still laughing.

Unable to help myself, I also grinned a little.

“Hahaha–”

“…”

– Yeah I should stop.

“You’re a guest, aren’t you? Wait a second.” she said, running over to a different room.

“Ah, sure.” I said, honestly impressed.

I wondered if I would have been able to treat guests properly when I was her age.

Even though I had known how to do it, I now got the feeling that it had always been someone else who had greeted our guests.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting.” she said, placing a glass in front of me.

“Thank you very much.”

Mhm. Water.

“What a fine beverage.” I said, bowing my head, and the silver-haired girl sat down with a proud face. On my lap.

““……””

Whaaat? What should I do now?

While I was busy being confused, she turned around and stared at my eyes.

“Onii-chan, you give off a strange feeling.”

“…Strange?”

“But I’m not scared. At all.” she said, and begun swinging her legs.

“…”

Hmm… not scared, huh.

I could say with conviction that nobody had ever called me scary before.

“Really?”

“Mhm.”

Well, if she says so, then I guess that’s how it is.

Even though I don’t even know her name.

“It’s about time…”

The silver-haired girl suddenly muttered to herself, got off my lap, and turned to face me.

Then she held out both her slender, pale arms towards me.

…What am I supposed to do?

“What’s up?” I asked, and she puffed her cheeks out.

“Pick me up.” she said.

Now then, as Luna’s knight… I think I can pick her little sister up. I don’t think that would be considered disrespectful?

While she was young, she was still the daughter of a duke. And since she was still a child, if I made a mistake, the worst case scenario had my head saying goodbye to the rest of my body.

“Come ooonnn” she said, bobbing up and down.

…Mhm. Just picking her up should be fine. I thought to myself, gently picking her up.

The so-called uppity-up.

“Uhehe…”

…Good, she seems happy.

“Now hug me.” she said to me, still being held in mid-air.

Me, hug, her?

Now, you see, I belong to the older-than-me faction. Had it been one of the beautiful onee-samas from Ferris Girls’ telling me to do so, I would have happily obliged.

“Yeah, no, that really would be a bit too much.”

“But I want you to, now come on”

“Nonononono”

“– I’ll tell onee-sama? That onii-chan prefers little girls like me–”

My movements were swift.

I hugged her.

…What a frightening thing to say.

I had already remarked upon this, but while young, she was still the daughter of a duke. If this girl said someone was guilty of something, they would be, even if they weren’t.

And, with the worst timing imaginable, the door opened.

I fearfully turned to look towards the door.

“…”

Luna was standing there, frozen, her eyes wide in surprise.

I had never seen her like that before either.

Also, I was sure. This was bad.

“My lady, it’s not what you think. It’s not. It really isn’t.”

I gently put her little sister down and turned towards Luna, looking at the floor.

Then, filling my eyes with all the innocence I could muster, I looked up at her.

“– It’s not what you think.”

What can I say, I have a large vocabulary.

The response was silence. I broke out in a cold sweat.

However, perhaps aware of my panic, perhaps not, the little sister dealt a final blow.

“Onee-samaaa!! I was so scareed” she said, running over to Luna and hugging her.

She hid behind Luna, a demon-like grin appearing on her face.

This little…!

My heart was in overdrive. This pressure was worse than when I had dodged Claude’s opening blow by a hair’s breadth.

However, what Luna then said was quite unexpected.

“…Did she get that?” Luna said, looking at the glass on the table in front of the sofa I had been sitting on.

“Eh? Ah, yes.”

“I see… so you too, hmm, Eris?” she said, patting her sister on the head.

So the little sister was called Eris.

“Have you said hello yet?”

“Not yet”

“You can do it alone, now, can’t you?”

“Yees” Eris nodded, taking a step forward.

“I am the second daughter of Duke Flame, Eris Flame. It is a pleasure to meet you.” she said, bowing her head.

It was a cute greeting appropriate for her age, but I wouldn’t be fooled any more.

“…Fufu, so you can make a face like that as well. Don’t worry. I know what happened.” Luna said with a smile, and I was truly relieved.

“Still, what a surprise. She rarely goes near people like that. She runs away whenever father tries to get close to her.”

The poor duke… she treated him like a stranger.

“Seriously, I really do wonder who she takes after. I’m starting to get a little concerned.”

‘Perhaps you should ask yourself that’ I wanted to say, but decided on asking a different question instead. “Umm, my lady, what exactly am I supposed to be doing here?”

“Ah, that’s right. She’ll be here in a minute. Anyway, –”

Luna glanced at the wide-open door.

Athena’s twin red eyes were peeking at me around the doorframe, her face half-hidden.

“K-k-kami-sama!” I said, and her red eyes began to moisten.

“Yuno-san…!” Athena said happily, running over to me – and getting tackled halfway, falling over.

“Uwaa…! What a pretty person!”

It was Eris. Completely forgetting my existence, she was now giving Athena a passionate hug.

“Eh? U-um, it tickles…! Ahya…!”

…How nice. That smile was priceless.

“Anyway, my lady, why is Kami-sama here?”

“She was restlessly pacing back and forth in front of the mansion, so I brought her in.”

What? Did she follow me?

I got quite angry at myself for having let that happen.

“Still, it was perfect timing. We had a room prepared for her as well.”

“Eh!? She’s going to be living here too!?”

“Yes. Or at least, that was the plan. Or is it a problem?”

Absolutely not!

“No way! Thank you very much, my lady.” I said, bowing deeply.

I’d get to live with Athena. There was no way I wouldn’t be happy.

“…She is the reason, isn’t she. Athena.” Luna said quietly, and I gave a small nod in response.

It was Luna, after all. She had probably figured out almost everything.

Suddenly, I could smell a flowery scent.

I turned towards its origin, and–

“Araa? So he’s the knight you told me about, Luna.”

A stunning, silver-haired goddess had descended upon us.

I bowed by reflex.

I see… I see now. She is most definitely –

“– that’s right, mother.”
