Chapter 3.29

The Sea, Fishermen, and Sailors

The next day, I headed for the port that Driese had told me about and learned the answer to the question I had last night.

When I arrived at the harbor, Driese and her fellow fishermen were surrounded by a large group of men who appeared to be sailors.

Among them was a man who has a vaguely familiar physique with a blue bruise on his face.

Rather than saying that it was a critical situation, it seems that I had just arrived at the scene where a large number of sailors were trying to lynch fishermen outnumbered and outgunned.

Ah, no, I don’t mean it in a bad way, but it’s more like I just came in time.

“Elf brother! Don’t come here, you have nothing to do with this, run away!!!”

It was a voice from Driese who quickly noticed my approach.

Hearing these words, I decided to take the side of my acquaintance whom I had just met yesterday, even though I had no idea what was going on.

Both the sailors and the fishermen’s attention were momentarily drawn to me by that voice.

“Hey, Driese. I’m here to get some fish. You look like you’re having a hard time, but is it okay? I actually have something I want you to catch for me.”

Even though I was exposed to many eyes, I didn’t stop walking and headed to Driese.

I don’t care what the circumstances are.

Since entering this town, Saurote, I have encountered nothing but violent incidents.

That’s why I too, following the customs of this town, don’t restrain myself from a little violence.

I won’t hit them with my bare hands and hurt my hands, though, because I had reflected for myself yesterday.

I already knew that Driese had a short temper and quick hands, but he didn’t seem to be a bad-hearted guy.

And if he was willing to get seafood for me, then, of course, I would help him.

“Oy, wait elf. This has nothing to do with you, uwahh!?”

A sailor who tried to stand in front of me was blown away by a mass of water that flew in from the sea without warning.

Of course, the water is the only thing that hit him, so even if he is knocked unconscious by the impact, he is not likely to suffer serious injury.

“Eh, what? You’re the one interrupting me, you know. I have important business with Driese right now, and it’s going to hurt you a little bit if you interrupt me.”

It was, in a manner of speaking, a kindly advice.

Right next to us, even if we were in the harbor, was already the ocean.

The spirit that dwells in the huge body of water called the sea is overwhelmingly majestic and powerful.

I will take this into account and adjust the amount of water to a sufficient degree, but even so, I think the power of the water would be somewhat stronger than usual.

“He,he’s the one who got his hands on us first! We’re here to retaliate for what they did to our people! We won’t let some unrelated stranger get in the way!!!!!!!”

And yet the sailors ignored my advice and surrounded me with open hostility.

Ah, I see.

In other words, yesterday’s commotion was deliberate to make Driese put his hands on him in order to have an excuse for retaliation, huh.

Then I am by no means unrelated.

“Ah, yesterday. He, over there, turned the food I was eating over. Unrelated? After you got me involved and brought me into a fight?”

Thinking of the fish he ruined made me angry again.

It seemed to have sensed a sign of conflict in my anger.

The waves in the sea are getting higher and the anchored boats are rocking violently.

…… I haven’t asked for anything yet, but isn’t the spirit of water that dwells in the sea a little too belligerent?

“Don’t f*ck with me, abuah!?”

The sailors who attacked while saying curses were blown away one after another after receiving several masses of water.

Some rolled on the ground, others were unlucky enough to fall into the sea.

The morale of the sailors, realizing that they could not win, instantly collapsed, and they ran frantically away without helping their fallen comrades.

And standing behind them are the stunned Driese and the fishermen.

“For the time being, even if we have to hand them over to the guards, should we save the people who fell into the sea? Or…… do we just feed them to the fish?”

When I jokingly asked them that, they came to their senses and hurriedly began to rescue the sailors who had fallen into the sea.

“E,elf-niisan, you were absurdly strong…… But if you were this strong, why did you let me hit you yesterday? With the power you just used, I would have been defeated with one hit.”

Driese, who seems to have some reason for releasing the sailors he rescued without turning them over to the guards, asks me that curiously.

The fishermen around us, some of whom had been at the bar at that time yesterday, nodded their heads, as if they had the same question.

“……Eh? I’m not going to have a spirit help me in a one-on-one fight in a bar, and it’s not like you’ve drawn your weapon. In a drunken brawl, would Driese beat his opponent alone or with his friends, even if the other party comes at him with his bare hands? If so, that would be a bit revolting”

For me, spirits are close friends and companions.

But even so, bringing up the power of spirits in a fight between drunks would be out of the question no matter how anyone thinks about it.

That was an equal fight.

Well, yesterday was the first time in my life that I got into a drunken fistfight.

If Driese had asked for help from the fishermen around him at that time, and if I had been surrounded by more than one person, it would have been a completely different story, and I would have borrowed power from the spirits without hesitation.

Driese smiles brightly, perhaps convinced by my words.

Yeah, maybe he was wondering if I had gotten out of hand in yesterday’s fight.

It was not intentional negligence. That hurt!

“I see, as I thought, Elf brother was interesting! Oh, I’ve got another debt. I’ll be out fishing soon. Do you have any fish you want to eat? I’ll take any of your request, depending on the mood of the sea god.”

Those words, which sounded like it was a deception, were apparently intended to keep me out of the mess between the fishermen and the sailors I had just met.

But if Driese intends to hide it, it would be too much of an intrusion on my part to dig into his affairs and ask him about it.

Therefore, I honestly fell for the deception, described the shapes of the octopus and squid, and told them that I wanted to eat them.

“That one with eight feet and ten feet, huh. Are you going to eat them, elf brother? They’ll spit black liquids out of their mouths, you know. Wouldn’t something like that kill you if you eat it?”

As expected, Driese frowns in surprise.

As I thought, octopuses and squids are considered strange foods for humans in this world.

Even so, eight and ten pairs of legs are nothing short of crude names.

“Because I’m an elf. We know how to eat seafood that humans don’t eat. I don’t think it’s available on the market, and if Driese doesn’t catch it for me, I have no choice but to just give up. ……”

Speaking this with a little regret, Driese shook his head in a panic, boarded the ship with his fellow fishermen, and left the port.

I don’t know what fishing is like in this world, but if they don’t say no, they must be confident that they will be able to catch it.

I’m looking forward to it.

As I thought, Driese is a good-natured guy.

So unless he tells me, I won’t force myself to ask him about their current state, but…… still, as for the dispute between the sailors and fishermen, I’ll sneak in and find out what’s going on.

Half of it was out of curiosity, but the other half was because I was worried about my new acquaintance, whom I had just met in this town.

The sea breeze blowing from the ocean was refreshing, but the air in this harbor was somehow filled with a sense of uneasiness.
