Volume 3: The Hero and the Demon King.

“You know… I feel like I haven’t had dinner with Arius as often recently,” Jessica pouted while eating together at the adventurer guild in the town of Kernel.

Indeed, lately I’ve been prioritizing the conquest of the most difficult dungeons and diving into them until the last minute. There have been other things going on as well, like party affairs and matters related to the academy. It had been a while since I had dinner with Jessica and the others.

“Well, that’s an undeniable fact… Oh, Master. Since it’s Arius’s treat, bring us the most expensive bottle of alcohol and the dishes in order of highest price!” Marcia, as always, was carefree. I never said I would treat them, though.

“Hey, Marcia, stop assuming things about Arius! Arius, don’t worry. I’ll cover the bill for the drinks.” Alan interjected.

“As for me, I don’t mind if Alan treats us. Alright! I’ll eat and drink until Alan goes bankrupt!” Marcia declared.

No, I have no intention of relying on Alan. I’m not boasting, but I have more than enough money. After adventuring with Gray and Serena, I earned enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life. Even after starting at the academy, I continued to dive into dungeons and brought back large quantities of magic stones. Especially recently, since I’ve been conquering the most difficult dungeons, my storage is filled with high-quality magic stones. I can’t let it be known that I’m soloing the most difficult dungeons, so for now, I have no choice but to store them and leave them unused.

“Hey, Jessica. I do realize that I haven’t been coming here often lately. So next time…” I was about to say when the door of the adventurer guild swung open with a loud noise.

It’s still a little past 7 pm, so it’s not unusual for adventurers to come at this time. However, the person who entered was someone who stood out from their appearance alone.

With vibrant blue hair and blood-red eyes, objectively speaking, he was a handsome man of the caliber of a capture target from “Koigaku.” However, the man in flashy golden full plate armor wore a fierce smile that didn’t suit his handsome looks.

“Hey, I heard that the SSS-ranked adventurer Arius is here. Show yourself already, or I’ll make a scene.” This guy is dangerous. It seems like everyone else thinks so too.

“Arius, leave this to us and escape through the back door,” Gale, an A-ranked adventurer, whispered. He had a serious expression I’ve never seen before. Gale, you can make serious faces too, huh?

The members of Gale’s party were also nodding with anxious expressions.

“Hey, Gale, what’s with the act? My problem is something I’ll handle myself,” I mocked Gale, not taking my eyes off the guy in the golden full plate armor.

This opponent is over level 600, and I’ve appraised him, so I know his stats and skills. It’s not just his high level; his stats are abnormally high, and he possesses skills I’m unfamiliar with.

“What do you want with Arius? Depending on your answer, I won’t show you any mercy!” Alan stood in front of the man in the golden full plate armor.

“What, an S-ranked adventurer? I have no business with small fry like you. If you don’t want to die, don’t get in the way of Chris Blood-sama here.” The man, Chris Blood, drew the large sword strapped to his back. The handle resembling a dragon and the golden blade is the magic sword Ouroboros, a product of the “Dragon’s Palace.”

“You draw your sword in the adventurer guild… Are you out of your mind?” I said, making it clear that he had committed a crime. There are enough witnesses here, and there’s no escape.

“And so what? I’m special. Even if I kill you adventurers, there won’t be any consequences for me,” Chris spread his murderous intent. This guy is serious. He doesn’t hesitate to kill.

“What’s so special about you, I don’t know. But I can’t let dangerous people like you meet Arius,” Jessica said, unsheathing her beloved bastard sword and standing next to Alan, glaring straight at Chris. Alan nodded and drew his large sword.

“Don’t get cocky, you weaklings. Fine… I’ll kill you all!”

Chris smirked and swung his magic sword, Ouroboros, horizontally. He intended to sweep away Jessica and Allen together. Jessica and Allen reacted, but they couldn’t keep up with the incredibly fast slash.

The first one to be hit was Jessica, with the defenseless part of her torso being sliced by the magic sword. There’s no way I would allow something like that to happen.

Ouroboros was stopped midair by me using my bare hands, deflecting it and causing it to impale the ceiling.

“You’re trying to kill Jessica and Allen… It seems like you’re the one who wants to die,” I said.

“So… you’re Arius?” Chris asked, sporting a smile filled with killing intent. But I don’t care about that.

“Jessica, Allen, sorry for getting in the way. But this guy is my prey,” I said.

“Arius…” Jessica and Allen’s voices overlapped. You two get along surprisingly well.

“You seem quite relaxed… It pisses me off!” Chris took out a spare sword from his storage.

But it’s too late. I strike him with my fist before he can get into a stance with his sword.

“Ugeeee…” My fist pierced his abdomen, causing Chris’s full plate armor to dent.

Well, I knew a fool like him would come.

“Some troublesome guys… are looking for you, so deal with them when you go there,” Gray and Serena sent me a message two days ago. They heard about Chris’s true identity, but he’s truly a bothersome guy.

“Do you think… you can kill me with this…? I will definitely kill you!” Chris laughed fiercely while coughing up blood. Well, I hit him in a way that wouldn’t kill him.

I’ve also had my fair share of sparring with Gray, so I know all about human weak points. I know how to hurt someone without killing them.

So… I’m angry. I have no intention of forgiving Chris, who tried to kill Jessica and Alan.

I punched him in the jaw, shattering his jawbone and teeth. Chris lost consciousness with his eyes rolled back.

Hey, don’t lose consciousness so easily. We’re just getting started.
