Chapter 10: Village Chief, Long Time No See.

The biggest building in this village. That’s where the Village Chief lives. It’s in a place where I could see it no matter where I was, so I never got lost.

There were many people passing by, including wagons that looked like peddlers(merchants) and groups of adventurers. There was no atmosphere of desolation. The impression of a village left behind in time is strengthened.

After completing my observations, I arrived at the Village Chief’s house and knocked on the door. An old woman greeted me. If I remember correctly, she must have been the wife of the Village Chief.

“Who are you?”

Her voice sounded a little cautious.

It was understandable that an unfamiliar man would come to a village where I knew so many people.

“I want to move. I’m here to greet the Village Chief.”

The old woman’s expression softened a little, as if she had been convinced by my words. She led me to the guest room and we waited in a daze until the Chief arrived.

Not much had changed since a few years ago, but there were a few things that caught my attention.

For example, there was a map of the area around the village hanging on the wall. There were a few X marks in the center of the forest, which looked ominous. There were also a few tools stained with dirt. Most of them are used for camps, but I didn’t understand why they were placed here because of some double-edged swords and armor.

Let’s find out more. As I sat up to do so, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. A few moments later, the door opened.

“I was wondering who you were when I heard you were a prospective immigrant, but it was you.”

“Chief. It’s been a while. I’m Lars, the former Magic Swordsman.”

He must have remembered my face when I was asked to defeat the Ogre.

We shook hands with a friendly smile on our faces.

“You used to be a Magic Swordsman?”

“I decided to settle down for a reason.”

“Hmm, isn’t there any particular problem with the body?”

“Yes. In fact, my body is in better shape than when I defeated the Ogre.”

I was dissatisfied with the five bodies and would not be able to move, so I emphasized on my strength. [T/N: He probably talks about his party.]

The wrinkles that showed his age deepened even more.

“That’s fine, that’s fine. Your character(personality) is guaranteed. As long as you are healthy, you have no problem moving here.”

I had no idea that my request for a cheap job would come back to me in such a way.

I did it for my own sake, but I guess you should do what’s good for you.

The Village Chief pulls out a piece of parchment. This is to write the necessary information for the migration.

I can write letters, so I fill in my name, age, and other information.

“I’ve filled in everything.”

“It looks like everything is in order. Midia!”

As soon as her name was called, the old woman came into the room. When the Village Chief gives her parchment, she goes somewhere again.

“You are now a member of the village.”

“I look forward to working with you.”

I thought there would be some sort of screening process, but it ended so easily that I was disappointed.

I’ve been traveling around as an adventurer since I left my hometown, but I never thought I’d end up settling down. You really never know what will happen in life.

“Now, I have a question for you, if you don’t mind.”

I had a bad feeling about this, but as a newcomer, there was no way I could refuse.

I nodded and decided to wait for the Village Chief to speak.
