Chapter 12: I hope you’ll keep in touch.

The survey of the forest that I was asked to do was to begin tomorrow.

Now that I had more time, I headed for the house closest to the forest at the beginning of the village.

It seemed to have been inhabited until half a year ago, but it was no longer in use. This was to be my new home.

「It looks better than I expected.」

They say that houses that are no longer inhabited decay quickly, but I couldn’t find anything damaged from the outside.

I opened the door and went inside. The brick house felt a little dusty.

There were three rooms, large enough for one person to live in. The furniture was left unattended, and the house was fully furnished with beds, tables, chairs and other necessities. With a simple cleaning and washing, I could live here right away.

After leaving my few belongings at home, I went to the common(shared) laundry room where I had been told to draw water and scrubbed my sheets. It was late and no one was around. As I was mindlessly working, I heard a familiar voice.

「Are you doing laundry too, Lars-san?」

Sophie was standing there. She was holding a basket in both hands with a large amount of clothes in it.

It’s not because she’s a woman that she has a lot of ……. It’s just that, it’s not practical to move around with all this stuff.

「That’s a lot of laundry.」

「I became friends with Helmine after that, and her father offered me a room at the inn for free, in exchange for helping him with his work.」

Isn’t that old man giving Sophie preferential treatment just because she’s beautiful⁈

He was trying to get a hold of a girl who looked like a naive girl…and after imagining that much, I shook my head and shook it off.

No, you’re indeed thinking too much. There are no women close to Helmine’s age, so she probably made the deal as a way to make friends. If Sophie served the customers, the sales would definitely increase.

「Where are you going to live, Lars-san?」

Sophie asked as she sat down next to me and started washing.

「The beginning of the village. There are no buildings around. It’s a quiet and easy place to live.」
「I see! I’ll come and say hello next time!」
「Oh, yes. I’m looking forward to it.」

No matter how I looked at it, it didn’t seem like just like a verbal promise. Sophie would definitely come. That’s what I felt.

「If you’re going to come, please let me know in advance, because I’ll probably be away from home a lot.」

It’s not that I don’t want her to come, but I can’t just invite guests without preparation.

In my case, I will often have to leave the village to investigate in the forest, so if we don’t make plans, we will pass each other.

「I understand! I’m relieved that you got a job, too, Lars-san. I look forward to working with you in the future〜」
「Yes, please do.」

While the laundry was being done, we spent some time chatting about my work and what had happened since I arrived in Yang.

It’s been two days since I met her, but whenever I have a conversation with Sophie, the conversation never stops. The boring laundry was over before I knew it.

[T/N: Sophie’s a real waifu material right.]
