Chapter 57: It had been a raging day.

It had been a raging day.

When I was released from Zelma, it was night. Using [Light Magic] to illuminate the area, I headed to Pops’s store. This time, I wasn’t there on business, but as a customer.

As I opened the swinging door and entered the store, a thick voice welcomed me.

“You’re safe! We’ve been worried about you since the goblin attacks have been increasing rapidly! Didn’t you get attacked on your way back from the dungeon?”

Pops was waving at me from the counter. I held up my hand lightly as if to reply.

“That’s a disturbing story! It was peaceful on the road!”

The restaurant was crowded with customers, so it would be annoying to talk to them. I decided to sit down in an empty seat.

“Two ales for now.”

“It’ll be right with you!”

I ordered from Helmine, who was nearby, and finally felt at ease. It had been a raging day.

Starting with a hungover Nobleman and ending up being threatened by another Nobleman, I haven’t had any luck since I left the party. If I had been a normal person, I would have been stuck in this situation several times.

This request in particular would have been impossible to accomplish if it had been anyone but me …… That’s why Zelma caught me, though.

The next task is the 2nd investigation, but it will be a little while before we can actually move. Before that, we also need to inform the family of Christo’s death and get all the formalities done.

I think it’s a good idea to forget about the Aristocrats with alcohol for today.

“Thank you for waiting.”

Two wooden mugs filled to the brim with ale were placed with a bang.

I looked up to see Sophie with an intimidating smile on her face.

It was different from Zelma’s, quiet but terrifying, with the air of an assassin.

“Oh, thank you.”

I don’t know what it is, but she seems to be upset. I’m really, really not having a good day.

As if to escape, I poured the ale down my throat in one gulp and drank it down.

“Fu~uu ……”

I was expecting her to be gone in the meantime, but it was the other way around.

She sat down on the chair and looked at me.

“Is the customer service good?”

“I’ve finished my work for the day. Please don’t worry.”

I don’t feel safe with Sophie looking at me like that ……

She doesn’t seem to want to move. It can’t be helped, do you want me to drink it quickly and go home?

I tried to grab another mug, but Sophie’s hand overlapped mine and stopped me.

[TN: Oh yeah! Come on!]

You can’t escape from a dungeon boss . Such words flashed through my mind.

“Thank you for your hard work, investigating the dungeon.”

“Oh, thank you.”

“It seems that the Knight is dead.”

Is there already a rumor going around that the Knight is dead? Well, it’s no wonder since the number of people who have returned has decreased.

“That’s right. The Knight-sama and two of his servants died in the dungeon.”

“I’ll help you if you want to escape.”

I see! Sophie doesn’t know about my deal with Zelma, so she’s worried that I might be held responsible for the death of the Nobleman!

So she was frustrated with me for being so laid back. She’s a nosy ex-Saint.

[TN: Oi that’s not called nosy! That’s called a caring Onee-sama!]

“I’m fine. I reported it to Zelma-sama, and she praised me for doing a perfect job.”

“A Knight is dead and you did a perfect job? What do you mean by that, ……?”

You know more about the noble world than I do, and if I give you this much information, you’ll get your answer soon enough.

After gently removing Sophie’s hand, I drank the remaining ale.

I felt a little light-headed from all the alcohol I had consumed in such a short time, but I didn’t care, I stood up and said …

“So you don’t have to worry about me. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“Of course. If you think I’m lying, just ask him.”

Well, let’s go home and have another drink.

I put a few coppers on the table and decided to leave the store in less than 10 minutes.
