Actual Fairytale – Picking up a Merperson! (1)
“Thank you for bringing me here, allowing me to meet him again.”
A crisp and pleasant voice that sounded like jade pulled Lu Shijin’s mind to the present.
He had just finished processing the plot of this world and stared at the boy in front of him.
He seemed to be around fifteen years old. He had clear amber eyes that glowed with vitality and skin that was the colour of the pearls from the bottom of the sea, his lips red like coral.
His hair was light brown and was slightly curled, looking like a beautiful kid with mixed blood.
The boy’s name was Jun Li, and was the protagonist of the world. Although he seemed like a normal human child, he was actually a merperson.
This was a science fiction fairy tale that was set in the future of a certain fairy tale.
Land was ruled by humankind, who walked on two legs, while the oceans were ruled by merpeople, who shared an ancestor with humankind, but evolved from apes in the sea instead.
The upper body of merpeople were the same as humans, but they had a powerful tail instead of legs to help them swim freely in the sea.
But if they came onto land, their tails would become legs that worked in the same way as human legs.
They also had intelligence that exceeded humans and could communicate with all sea creatures as well as live for 300 years.
Merpeople established their own culture and kingdom underwater, being in charge of all life in the sea. The humans called it the “Merperson Kingdom”.
Of course, merpeople had a weakness. Their reproductive ability was bad and female merpeople could only have one child in their life.
Before 15, merpeople were gender neutral and had the beginnings of both sets of reproductive organs.
When they turned 15, their puberty would be finished and they could choose to be male or female.
Female merpeople had similar biology to female humans. Along with their captivating beauty and voice, they were the most attractive creatures at the bottom of the sea.
Meanwhile, most male merpeople were ugly. They had horns on their foreheads and scales covering their face, as well as gills on the side of their faces, sharp canines, and violent temperaments. They loved fighting and were territorial, being the most savage and cold-blooded creatures at the bottom of the sea.
With their high intelligence, merpeople also cared a lot about their appearance.
Most of them chose to be female at 15, since they were more beautiful.
However, these female merpeople didn’t like being with their ugly counterparts. If it wasn’t for the sake of continuing their race, they wouldn’t interact with the cruel male merpeople.
It continued that way until a female merperson was washed onto shore and fainted on the beach until she was rescued by a male human.
And just like the fairy tale, the pretty mermaid and handsome human fell in love at first sight and lived happily ever after after many initial struggles.
Then, something happened that shocked humans and merpeople alike. The mermaid actually got pregnant and gave birth to a healthy male baby after ten months.
After testing, they found that the baby’s DNA was identical to humans. He was completely human!
But it made sense for the two species to be able to reproduce. After all, they came from the same ancestor.
Since there were no precedents for this, and by doing so, they lead the world to have a new view of the world.
More and more male humans wanted to be with a female merperson. Not only could they show off their pretty wife, they also got a better identity because of it.
More and more merpeople chose to be female, and refused to interact with their male counterparts.
Compared to the ugly and rough male merpeople, male humans were a lot more handsome, as well as gentle and polite. What kind of women wouldn’t like that?
What’s more, merpeople had four or five times the lifespan of a human, which meant that a merperson could go through multiple human partners in their lifetime.
So merpeople would often go on land and find a male human to spend a part of their life with after becoming female.
By doing this, it made the already low reproductive rate of the merpeople become even lower.
After a couple decades, the number of merpeople decreased significantly. The remaining merpeople realized that if they continued reproducing with humans, they might go extinct.
So the merpeople king ordered troops to patrol the oceans to prevent female merpeople from going onto land. If anyone was found to have been with a human, they would be executed for treason.
Jun Li was the merpeople king’s only brother and was three months away from 15.
A month ago, he had accidentally gone into a tiger shark’s territory when he was playing.
Tiger sharks were one of the fiercest creatures in the sea. Jun Li wasn’t fully grown yet, and there was no one to protect him. His own combat power was pretty much zero.
The tiger shark regarded Jun Li as prey and chased after him. Jun Li swam with his life on the line and finally got to shallow water before being washed ashore.
He was bitten by the tiger shark as he swam, so his tail was severely injured. He couldn’t swim back and could only lie on the sand and wait for his death.
Coincidentally, there was a male human walking by and found Jun Li, who was lying on the beach, his feet continuously bleeding, and showing a lot of skin. He brought him home to treat him.
This person was the other main character, Shen Shao, the sole heir to the Shen Group, which was one of the richest corporations in the world. He himself was worth hundreds of billions.
Shen Shao rescued Jun Li and kept him in his mansion, personally looking after his injury until it healed.
During this time, Jun Li gradually fell in love with his handsome and gentle human, secretly deciding to become female and be with Shen Shao.
Shen Shao knew that Jun Li was a merperson, so he took him back to the sea after his injury healed.
Jun Li reluctantly went back into the ocean, but he never forgot about the one he loved on land.
Eventually, he couldn’t suppress his love for Shen Shao anymore and secretly went on land.
However, he had never lived on land before and didn’t know where to look for Shen Shao.
Just as he was at a loss, he met Lu Shijin’s character, who was a rich playboy, friend of Shen Shao.
But Lu Shijin wasn’t interested in someone as young as Jun Li, and decided to help him when he asked him to find Shen Shao.
