Chapter 2 – Sense of Discomfort

By giving instructions to the army, he had done what he could for now.

He wanted to move on to the next step as soon as possible after grasping the city’s condition but with all the windows not showing any new information, he had to wait for the army corps’ to gather the info and report it to him.

Only the information known to the player is displayed in the game windows in this game. You couldn’t really open up a window and get the latest information whenever you wanted from announcements or the sort.

As such, no matter how much he wanted to know what the current situation was, he had no choice but to wait for his subordinates to finish gathering info.

“That said, not doing anything is boring as well.”

He opened the chat window.

The players he had interacted with in the past—in other words, kings of other countries were displayed on the half-transparent screen in front of him.

He tried opening up the said window to kill some time and gather some intel if possible by chatting with others but—

“Hmm?”

All the players listed on the window were grayed out.

White meant they are online, gray meant that they are offline and black would imply that they’ve fallen into ruin—basically game over. In other words, all the players he interacted with before were offline.

No matter how you look at it, it wasn’t normal for there to be no one online at such a time when they should be having their own founding of nation celebrations.

When Helian tilted his head, looking all puzzled at the window, a gentle knock was heard from the door.

“Helian-sama, it’s Lieve. I’ve come with reports regarding the current situation.”

“Come. I ‘allow’ you to ‘enter the room’.”

And so the door had been opened without a sound.

Lieve entered with unhindered motion and looked as sharp as ever but her wolf-ears were down.

He could infer that the report may not be too well from that.

“Well then, I shall begin immediately. First of all, the capital is completely surrounded by a forest. Not only that, the 8th corps have reported that some sort of jamming has been deployed throughout the whole forest.”

“Area jamming, eh… I wonder if I should deploy the 4th corps to investigate it anew. With safety first in mind, using magicians from afar.”

“It appears the 4th corps commander has already attempted doing so, however, they had difficulty analyzing the jamming and reported that it’d be difficult to produce any result soon. It seems they need to go there on foot.”

“Oh, they’ve already tried it? Well, then, taking the forest’s terrain into account, let’s form an investigation squad with elves…….. eh?”

“Understood. I shall follow it up with the 4th corps commander.

——Wa-wait.

“Continuing on, according to the aerial report from the dragons of the 8th corps… It appears that the forest continues endlessly as far as the eye can see. The northeast side seems less dense with trees comparatively and some wastelands can be seen very far, however, it would be difficult for them to observe further due to the low elevation limit from the barrier throughout the capital.”

——Wait a second here.

“Also, this is just a minor detail to it but—the dragons of the 8th corps were complaining to let them go higher or further to directly investigate so I shut them up with my fist. It seems they didn’t properly understand the king’s orders to not provoke anything outside the nation. I’ll have the 8th corps commander retrain them later on. Just in case, I also warned the commander not to kill any of them off by mistake.”

——Like I said, stop, wait.
