Chapter 2.1 Misty Manor

Of course, Xia Qing was not afraid.

After getting rejected by Ye He, as if to save face, he urged with an irritated look: “Go.”

However, in Ye He’s eyes, this completely verified his guess.

Xia Qing is really afraid of ghosts!

Ye He whispered in his heart: “You are afraid of ghosts. Even if you are afraid of ghosts, what are you doing being so fierce? What’s wrong with being afraid of ghosts?”

System: [Yes, double standards.]

For some reason, Ye He felt a strange feeling of yin and yang from the mechanical sound of system.

Before Ye He could react, Xia Qing had already turned and continued to walk forward.

The gentleness that was revealed earlier appeared to be an illusion.

Xia Qing, who was still reeling from the shame of being rejected, pretended to be too lazy to talk for the rest of the journey.

It’s just that he secretly turned his head to look at Ye He from time to time, and turned his head angrily after being caught by Ye He. Just like a girlfriend who was angry and hoped to be coaxed.

The two quickly walked to the hall. The light in the hall was much better than in the corridor.

Ye He heard a stern voice before he got any closer: “The guest will be escorted here shortly by the host. I hope everyone cheers up and does their own thing with diligence.”

In the hall, there was a line of people standing  in front of the grand stairs. There were both men and women present. The men wore standard valet attire, while the women wore maid outfits with long lichen skirts covering their ankles, all expressionless.

A middle-aged man stood in front. Despite his grey hair, he was tall and straight, his blue eyes were muddy with age.

He seemed to notice something and abruptly stopped speaking, turned his head and looked in the direction of Ye He and Xia Qing, frowning immediately: “What took you so long?”

The others followed the butler’s gaze, only to be glued to Ye He’s figure, who stood at the door.

Xia Qing, who had noticed their gaze, was inexplicably unhappy. He blocked Ye He’s view, turned to face the housekeeper, and replied, neither humble nor arrogant:

“Some time was lost on the way.”

The butler didn’t say anything after hearing Xia Qing’s explanation, but told them to return to the team first.

One of the servants moved sideways to make way. Xia Qing walked straight over, and Ye He stood at the back of the group.

Seeing that the two had returned to the team, the housekeeper resumed the topic that had been interrupted: “Now I will arrange the task…”

Xia Qing, Ye He and two other maids were all assigned to greet the host and their guest.

Some maids were assigned to clean the rooms, while others were allocated to the kitchen or the garden.

As if recalling something, the head butler added: “Some of you are new to the mansion. If you don’t understand something, you can ask one of the seniors who have been working here for a long time. Don’t violate the master’s taboo.”

As soon as his voice fell, Ye He’s ears rang with the system’s voice:

[Host should treat the task assigned by the head butler with care and avoid making the master angry. Otherwise, there will be a risk of being dismissed midway and not getting a penny. ]

Ye He, who had been arrogant at first, became serious in an instant: “It is too soon to say that I will be dismissed. Why would I stop myself from shining in this post?”

He planned to ask Xia Qing later to see if he knew what the master’s taboo was.

After the head butler issued orders, he hurriedly left, and the servants dispersed as well. Ye He noticed Xia Qing standing close with two servants and muttering something, but was too embarrassed to disturb them.

Just as Ye He was pondering who he should speak with, a pretty-looking maid walked over. She was one of the maids chosen to greet the guest.

The other party smiled and greeted Ye He: “Hello, my name is Su Lingling.”

“Are you sure that person is an NPC?” A thin, tall young man standing face to face with Xia Qing noticed the other’s displeasure and reluctantly moved his sight from Ye He’s back.

Xia Qing deliberately led the two of them to the corridor. He threw a glass ball-like prop out after making sure Ye He couldn’t be seen. When the glass ball touched the floor, it instantly grew in size, enclosing the three people, allowing them to have a private conversation without the worry of being overheard by the NPCs or other groups.

Xia Qing sighed and folded his arms, saying impatiently: “Of course, I’ve tried it. He doesn’t even know the background of this copy.”

On the way, he told Ye He about the dungeon unexpectedly because he wanted to put the other party to a test, and Ye He’s reaction proved that he was just an NPC who didn’t understand anything.

Another girl took the conversation: “Yes, there could be novices in this dungeon. Moreover, Su Lingling’s strange expression upon seeing him means he does not resemble anyone on their team.”

“Remember, that aside from completing the main task this time, the most important thing is to obtain the Duke of Cissar’s notebook. It is an SSS-rated special item that cannot fall into the hands of Su Lingling or others.”

When discussing the task, Xia Qing’s expression became solemn: “Her captain most likely used an item that allows him to change his identity. I believe it will either be the host or the guest. We must proceed with caution.”

The two naturally nodded, and just as Xia Qing was about to let them go to finish the task set up by the housekeeper, the thin and tall young man smiled ambiguously: “Captain, you are all grown up, do you want to try with that NPC??”

Xia Qing, who was still looking impatient, stiffened instantly. He knew exactly what his team mate meant.

They became involved in this horror game for a variety of reasons and ran around the dungeon in order to finish the task and return to the original world.

It was only natural that many nervous people poured their desires on the lovely and beautiful NPC.
